Interpretation-Ghazal-80

1.

If you have confidence that your prayer for something will be accepted, then why waste time in praying for it,

Do not ask for anything else in addition to a heart without desire.

(When there is a heart without desire, then nothing else is even necessary.)

(No prayer can possibly be superior to this prayer.)

(If you are confident that you can and will accept God sends, then it is not proper to pray for some particular thing to happen or not to happen.)

(Complete resignation to God's will.)

They are so numerous that when I count them, then the number of those wounds that you have given me in the world, and those are as numerous as my sins, comes to mind,

Then, Oh! My Lord, do not ask me for an account of my sins.

(Because the sins and wounds are identical in numbers. Ghalib means that when he committed some sin, then because of his powerlessness, he could not satisfy his temperament, one or another longing certainly remained unfulfilled. If he drank wine, the he did not attain union, and if he attained union, then he did not get any wine. Thus however many sins he committed, he suffered exactly that many wounds to his heart.)

(In this too there is a new kind of mischievousness, which is absolutely untouched by other poets.)

(Oh Lord, do not ask me to account for my sins, because whenever you nag me about that I always think of all my unfulfilled longings. When I do so, I compare them to the accounting my sins, so do not make me angry to you.
