1.
The pain of my passion would have been forced to be under an obligation toward medicine,if I became well,
For this reason it turned out well that I did not get well.
(I did not want to be indebted to anyone.)

2.
Why do you gather the rivals, the quarrel is between you and me,
What is the benefit of turning the complaints and laments into a spectacle.
(He wanted to make a complaint. The beloved has said, all right make your complaint before four men, let them decide who is right. Now he is afraid that the rivals will learn all his secrets.)
3.
Where is there any such place where I can go to be murdered,
When you yourself hesitate to test your dagger.
(You are the hunter as properly and naturally as I am the prey, and if you do not perform your role, how can I perform.)
4.
Your lips are so sweet that even the rival happily eats up the abuse,
He was deprived of the relish of passion, not even the disrepute displeased him.
(How well the praise of the beloved's sweet lips are described.)
5.
When he hears the news of the coming of beloved, he readied himself for guest-reception,
And such a state of helplessness, that today not even a straw mat remains in the house.
(The Lord has provided me both grief of passion and the grief of livelihood.)
6.
In my servitude was the "Divinity of Namrud",
It brought me only harm and no benefit.
(Oh God,was my servitude too like the divinity of Namrud? For its outcome was no good.)
(The implication is that he serves God for the sake of his own advantage, and that he reserves the right to reproach or criticize God if Is God's behaviour is not to his liking.)
[Ghalib is mischievous enough to accuse God himself of mischievousness.]
7.
Life was a trust from Lord,He had given us this trust as a blessing, and confided it to us,
I gave my life on the path of truth, but what virtue of mine is there in this, the life was not mine.
(We have not fulfilled our responsibility. If we had sacrificed something of our own in His path, then it would have been accomplishment of our duty.)
[This thought, these words, this construction, they are all beyond description.]
8.
If pressure is applied to a wound, the blood should stop flowing, but in this case it does not,
If my task is halted, it is stopped forever.
(I can not get any work done in the world, I can only continue to suffer, such is my destiny.)
9.
Is it highway robbery or is it heart-theft,
Having taken the heart the heart-thief went.
(The beloved steels my heart, it is her right, but then she went with it, instead of staying and tormenting me, what is this.)
10.
You must compose and recite, it is your duty,
Even if you are not in the mood, public opinion should be obeyed "Ghalib".
(Once the King asked Ghalib to recite something even it is out of his style.)
