लाज़िम था कि देखो मिरा रस्ता कोई दिन और
तंहा गये क्यूँ अब रहो तंहा कोई दिन और
2.
मिट जाएगा सर गर तिरा पतथर न घिसेगा
हूँ दर पे तिरे नासिया-फ़रसा कोई दिन और
3.
आये हो कल और आज ही कहते हो कि जाऊँ
माना कि हमेशा नहीं अचछा कोई दिन और
4.
जाते हुए कहते हो क़ियामत को मिलेंगे
क्या ख़ूब क़ियामत का है गोया कोई दिन और
5.
हाँ ऐ फ़लक-ए पीर जवाँ था अभी आरिफ़
क्या तेरा बिगड़ता जो न मरता कोई दिन और
6.
तुम माह-ए शब-ए चार-दुहम थे मिरे घर के
फिर क्यूँ न रहा घर का वो नक़्शा कोई दिन और
7.
तुम कौन-से थे ऐसे खरे दाद‐ओ‐सितद के
करता मलक उल-मौत तक़ाज़ा कोई दिन और
8.
मुझ से तुम्हें नफ़रत सही नैयर से लड़ाई
बच्चों का भी देखा न तमाशा कोई दिन और
9.
गुज़्री न ब हर हाल ये मुद््दत ख़ुश‐ओ‐ना-ख़ुश
करना था जवाँ-मरग गुज़ारा कोई दिन और
10.
नादाँ हो जो कहते हो कि क्यूँ जीते हैं ग़ालिब
क़िस्मत में है मरने की तमन्ना कोई दिन और

لازم تھا کہ دیکھو مرا رستا کوئی دن اور
تنہا گیے کیوں اب رہو تنہا کوئی دن اور
2.
مٹ جاۓگا سر گر ترا پتّھر نہ گھسےگا
ہوں در پہ ترے ناصیہ فرسا کوئی دن اور
3.
آیے ہو کل اور آج ہی کہتے ہو کہ جاؤں
مانا کہ ہمیشہ نہیں اچّھا کوئی دن اور
4.
جاتے ہوئے کہتے ہو قیامت کو ملیں گے
کیا خوب قیامت کا ہے گویا کوئی دن اور
5.
ہاں اے فلکِ پیر جواں تھا ابھی عارف
کیا تیرا بگڑتا جو نہ مرتا کوئی دن اور
6.
تم ماہِ شبِ چار دہم تھے مرے گھر کے
پھر کیوں نہ رہا گھر کا وہ نقشا کوئی دن اور
7.
تم کون سے تھے ایسے کھرے داد و ستد کے
کرتا ملک الموت تقاضا کوئی دن اور
8.
مجھ سے تمہیں نفرت سہی نیّر سے لڑائی
بچّوں کا بھی دیکھا نہ تماشا کوئی دن اور
9.
گزری نہ بہ ہر حال یہ مدّت خوش و نا خوش
کرنا تھا جواں مرگ گزارا کوئی دن اور

ناداں ہو جو کہتے ہو کہ کیوں جیتے ہیں غالب
قسمت میں ہے مرنے کی تمنّا کوئی دن اور

haa;N ay falak-e piir javaa;N thaa abhii ((aarif
kyaa teraa biga;Rtaa jo nah martaa ko))ii din aur
6.
tum maah-e shab-e chaar-duham the mire ghar ke
phir kyuu;N nah rahaa ghar kaa vuh naqshaa ko))ii din aur
7.
tum kaun-se the aise khare daad-o-sitad ke
kartaa malak ul-maut taqaa.zaa ko))ii din aur
8.
mujh se tumhe;N nafrat sahii naiyar se la;Raa))ii
bachcho;N kaa bhii dekhaa nah tamaashaa ko))ii din aur
9.
guzrii nah bah har ;haal yih muddat ;xvush-o-naa-;xvush
karnaa thaa javaa;N-marg guzaaraa ko))ii din aur
10.
naadaa;N ho jo kahte ho kih kyuu;N jiite hai;N ;Gaalib
qismat me;N hai marne kii tamannaa ko))ii din aur

Translation

1.
It was essential that you would watch my path few days more,
Why did you go alone, now remain alone a few days more.
2.
The head will be erased, if your stone will not be rubbed away,
On your door, I am forehead-rubbing a few days more.
3.
You have come yesterday and only today you say, I should go,
It is true that not forever, all right, a few days more.
4.
While going, you say, we will meet on doomsday,
That is marvellous one, as if doomsday is some other day.
5.
Oh ancient sky, Arif was still young,
What loss it would have to you, if had not died for a few days more.
6.
You were the foolmoon of the fourteenth night of my abode,
Then why did not that portrait of the abode remain a few days more.
7.
Since when you were strict on in transactions,
The God of death would have made his demand some other day.
8.
It is all right, you hated me, you fought with Nayyar,
You did not even watch the show of the children a few days more.
9.
Did not this duration pass in every condition pleasant or unpleasant,
You who died at young age should have passed a few days more.
10.
You are innocent when you say, why does "Ghalib" live,
In my fate is the desire to die, for a few days more.
