Ghazal no.33

1.
نہ تھا کچھ تو خدا تھا کچھ نہ ہوتا تو خدا ہوتا
ڈبویا مجھ کو ہونے نے نہ ہوتا میں تو کیا ہوتا
2.
ہوا جب غم سے یوں بے حس تو غم کیا سر کے کٹنے کا
نہ ہوتا گر جدا تن سے تو زانو پر دھرا ہوتا
3.
ہوئی مدّت کہ غالب مر گیا پر یاد آتا ہے
وہ ہر اک بات پر کہنا کہ یوں ہوتا تو کیا ہوتا

न था कुछ तो ख़ुदा था कुछ न होता तो ख़ुदा होता
डुबोया मुझ को होने ने न होता मैं तो कया होता
2.
हुआ जब ग़म से यूं बे-हिस तो ग़म कया सर के कटने का
न होता गर जुदा तन से तो ज़ानू पर धरा होता
3.
हुई मुददत कि ग़ालिब मर गया पर याद आता है
वह हर इक बात पर कहना कि यूं होता तो कया होता

nah hotaa gar judaa tan se to zaanuu par dharaa hotaa
3.
hu))ii muddat kih ;Gaalib mar gayaa par yaad aataa hai
vuh har ik baat par kahnaa kih yuu;N hotaa to kyaa hotaa

Translation

1.
When there was nothing, the God was there, if nothing existed, even then God was there,
My being has drowned me, if I did not exist, then what would I be.
2.
When I became benumbed with grief, then why to feel sorry for being beheaded,
If it was not separated from the body, then would have rested down upon the knee.
3.
It is long time since "Ghalib" died, but still I remember,
He used to say about every subject, if these were thus, then what would be.
